Smiles by Design

Your smile makes all the difference in the world

Smiles by Design Your smile makes all the difference in the world to you, and to those who care about you. Your smile is the focus of your face, second only to your eyes. A smile is personal, a signature of the individual wearing it. It's a mirror of your self-image and tells the world how you feel about yourself. A smile, appealing or not, plays a critical role in business and social relationships.

Not too long ago, many smiles were marred by broken, worn, or misaligned teeth. There weren't that many "Hollywood" smiles to go around. Today, cosmetic dentistry is state-of-the-art, within reach of stay-at-home moms, accountants, construction workers -- in a word, everyone. Yet many people are unaware of the possibilities for themselves. Cosmetic dentistry can bring changes into your life, changes all the better for your smile.

What Cosmetic Dentistry can do for you...

We think you'll agree: Every year is the best year of your life when you are healthy and happy. With new dental techniques, the "healthy" is a given. We correct any pre-existing oral problems before we begin a program of enhancement. The "happy" factor is the natural outcome of cosmetic dentistry -- being the best you can be -- inside and out. Some options:

Cosmetic

Even those of us in the best of dental health could use a little more perfection in our smiles. Maybe the front teeth are a little misaligned or there's a space between the teeth that has always bothered you. With cosmetic dentistry, we can now straighten crooked front teeth, close gaps, and whiten discolorations. Happily, these procedures for the most part, preserve existing tooth structure and require no anesthetic -- a comfortable, conservative approach to cosmetic dental work.

Crown & Bridge

In light of other cosmetic procedures, you might think the placement of crown and bridgework is ho-hum. The days of ponderous crowns and heavy bridges with metal bases peering through —- they're gone. New porcelain restorations look like natural teeth.

Inlays & Onlays

Another technique for brightening the entire mouth is the placement of tooth-colored inlays or onlays where metal fillings used to be the material of choice. Especially in the molars, at the back of the mouth, cavities and broken teeth are beveled to receive natural-colored materials that, to the eye, blend into existing enamel. The tooth becomes whole again.

Dentures

Over time, aging dentures can cause deep wrinkles and a jutting chin. To avoid looking older than you really are, you may want to replace or reline dentures to shave years off your face. A "painless face-lift" -— that's what new dentures can do for your smile and your appearance. To achieve a natural look, we can reconstruct new dentures right down to the shape, length, edge, and color of your natural teeth.

TMJ

The TMJ (short for temporomandibular joint) is the hinge that attaches the jaw to the skull. This joint can become misaligned with the tissues and muscles surrounding it, and the TMJ won't open and close properly. One symptom is a popping or clicking when you eat; TMJ disorder can also be painful and may mimic symptoms of other medical problems. We can usually treat TMJ disorder through minor tooth reshaping or by wearing a protective appliance, such as the N.T.I.

Implants

A remarkable achievement in dental science, implants are permanent restorations anchored in the jaw. For the right patient missing the right tooth, implants can restore the natural feeling of your own teeth. Most people who seek out dental implants want to steady a shifty denture, or bridge a large gap of several lost teeth. Whether a single-tooth implant or implants for an entire jaw, they can be an attractive alternative to fixed bridges or partial dentures.   More about Implants

Periodontal Assessment

How does periodontal tissue come into play in cosmetic dentistry? Have a look at anyone with passable teeth and unattractive gums, and you'll think "not very healthy" Healthy gum tissue has a color and resiliency of its own. Consider your gums as a backdrop to your teeth, and put first things first. Unhealthy gums will not support healthy teeth. If you're going to make the investment in cosmetic dentistry, periodontal assessment has to be part of the picture.

One treatment tooth whitening may be all you are seeking. However, any number of these procedures can be combined to create the ideal smile for you. We consider your whole health, your appearance and, always, the person inside.
